Restoration

  1. Identify what should be in the tool chest
    1. Missing drill bits
    2. Missing whatever goes in the three position container which I guess would be screws/nails
  2. Made two dowels out of maple that match the wood to replace the missing tool holders
  3. Use oxalic acid to clean up the staining

  • Dowels and replacement frame finished with tung oil, looks good
  • The spilled black liquid looks to be paint so I switched from oxalic acid to citrus based paint stripper
  • I noted the mitre box looks to have been replaced in the past and is warping
  • Finding what was originally in the storage boxes is still a hurdle

  • Removed 80% or more of the black paint
  • Assembled all the tools as I needed the workbench for other things
  • Set on a shelf until I discover the exact contents of the drill and screw container
