Docker on Debian

For reasons Debian does not include Docker in it's repos. Docker maintains packages for Debian so we can add Docker as an upstream repo source.

  1. Largely as root but you can use sudo if you like
  2. Install HTTPS support for APT
    # apt install apt-transport-https
  3. Add to your sources.list
    # echo "deb https://download.docker.com/linux/debian/ buster stable" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
  4. Install the key
    # curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/debian/gpg | apt-key add -
  5. Update
    # apt update
  6. Install Docker and optionally Docker Compose
    # apt install docker-ce docker-compose gnupg2 pass
  7. Add group to user
    # usermod -aG docker lathama
